The path ahead for shipping decarbonisation
Last month, International Maritime Organization Member States delayed a decision on the agency’s Net-Zero framework, a move that would have made shipping the first global industry with binding emissions reductions. That outcome loomed large over the Global Maritime Forum Annual Summit, which was held in Antwerp just days after the disappointing outcome. While many Summit attendees expressed frustration at the delay, they also had another very clear message: momentum must not be lost. The shipping community will continue to invest, innovate, and collaborate in developing the fuels, technologies, and partnerships that will drive progress towards a net-zero future.
