Prospectus for Implementation: The Research, Innovation and Knowledge Management Road Map for the South African Maritime Sector

The Research, Innovation and Knowledge Management Road Map for the South African Maritime Sector, was developed by the CSIR in partnership with SAIMI.

The Research, Innovation and Knowledge Management Road Map for the South African Maritime Sector, which was developed by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in partnership with the South African International Maritime Institute (SAIMI), was based on the outputs of a national maritime technologies workshop, a thought-leaders indaba, an electronic survey, a series of semi-structured interviews, an extensive literature review, and two rounds of regional stakeholder workshops. The Maritime Road Map is furthermore closely aligned with the Operation Phakisa: Oceans Economy process.

The Road Map identified several priority areas for research, innovation and knowledge management and specific actions under each objective. This provides clear terms of reference, which can be translated into research plans and actions. Funding commitments against the objectives should be deployed to research teams to address specific actions.
